Hamburg Klezmer Duo
This musical project, founded in 2024 by two Hamburg virtuosos Mark Kovnatskiy (violin) and Stas Dinerman (accordion), combines old and new, tradition and modernity. Two very different musicians, united by decades of friendship and joint performances in various ensembles, take their listeners on a unique musical journey into the wonderful world of Eastern European music.
The two musicians began working together in 2004 and founded in 2007 the Hamburg Klezmer Band, which has become one of the most recognizable klezmer groups in northern Germany.
The duo's program includes traditional melodies from the klezmer, Moldavian, Romanian, and Ukrainian repertoire as well as original compositions by the project musicians.
Line-Up:
Mark Kovnatskiy (violin) is one of the world's leading interpreters of klezmer music, performing and teaching in many international ensembles worldwide, from the USA and Canada to Europe, Israel, and Japan. In addition to his concert and teaching activities, he is a recognized composer of new Yiddish music performed by both classical and klezmer musicians around the world and is also a recognized expert in the field of traditional Yiddish dance. As a soloist, he has worked with many classical orchestras.
Stas Dinerman (accordion) is a successful and sought-after musician among both Jewish and jazz musicians. He is also an outstanding arranger and author of his own compositions, in which he combines influences from traditional Eastern European world music with modern musical styles such as jazz, funk, rock, and Latin American music. Like his duo colleague, Stas has performed in many international music projects in Germany and abroad and has also worked with classical orchestras, including the Augsburger Philharmoniker Orchestra (GER).
The Hamburg Klezmer Duo's sound combines Mark Kovnatskiy's love of authenticity and Stas Dinerman's preference for modern sounds, creating a unique sound that leaves no one indifferent.
